A front slowly moves northwards over the South Island on Friday, weakening as it pushes northwards. Meanwhile a low moves southeast past the northeastern side of the North Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, there may be some morning cloud of fog (fog for inland areas). Cloud may also hang about Northland during the day bringing the chance of a shower or two, skirting the east coast. Light southerly quarter winds.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington
Mostly sunny then a few evening showers develop as northwesterly winds change southerly.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, late afternoon or evening a few showers develop, some may even be heavy in isolated spots for inland areas then clearing later on / overnight. Light winds.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Cloudy areas and a few showers, mostly clearing by evening. Light northwesterlies.
Highs: 13-16

Canterbury
Cloud thickens up in the morning with southerly winds, chance of a shower or two mainly about inland areas.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud, afternoon southwesterlies may bring a few showers for Southland, skies clearing up later in the evening. A fairly dry day for everyone else, afternoon east to northeast winds develop about coastal Otago.
Highs: 13-14
