A front pushes northwards over the South Island this morning then onto the North Island this afternoon and evening, heralding in a cooler southerly change.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas with westerly winds, chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry. In the evening a southwest change moves through bringing more a period of more persistent period of showers. Showers may become heavy for a time overnight then easing before dawn on Saturday as southeasterlies freshen.
Highs: 16-18
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, northwesterlies change southerly late afternoon bringing a few showers. Showers may be heavy about Taranaki then clearing overnight.
Highs: 14-17
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, late afternoon / evening showers develop as south to southwesterly winds freshen. Showers may be heavy for a time in the ranges then easing overnight.
Highs: 18-22
Wellington
High cloud, northerlies change southerly late afternoon bringing lower level cloud.
High: 15
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning high cloud, southerly winds pick up in the afternoon bringing lower level cloud and a few showers. Showers may be heavy about the northwest Nelson area then clearing away later in the evening.
Highs: 15-17
Canterbury
Some sun at first then southwesterly winds freshen during the morning bringing increasing cloud and a few showers, showers more likely about inland areas (perhaps some rain) but a few at times near the coast. Showers or rain clears later in the evening for all areas.
Highs: 12-14
West Coast
Occasional showers, clearing late afternoon as light winds gradually tend to the south. Cloud breaks away overnight.
Highs: 13-16
Southland & Otago
Early showers possible then expect spells with southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-14
