Friday’s national forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A mix of sunny areas and some cloud over the North Island today after any morning showers clear in the west and about central areas, winds will be light from the west or northwest. About Wairarapa expect a few showers with southwesterly winds clearing in the afternoon, a few showers clear in Wellington by midday with sunny breaks then increasing. Later at night a few showers move onto the west coast north of Taranaki. Some morning fog about Waikato is possible and fog may form again at night there and in the Central North Island.

A mix of sunny areas and some cloud over the South Island, however expect fog in many places this morning but slowly breaking to some sun during the morning. Fog is likely to develop again at night in many areas. The odd drizzle patch may pester Fiordland mainly in the morning and any morning showers near the coasts in Buller and about Kaikoura clear with sunny spells increasing.

High’s today around 16 in Auckland, up to 17 in Northland. Mid teen high’s elsewhere and perhaps a degree or two cooler about Wellington, the Wairarapa and Central North Island. High’s of 12 to 13 in most South Island regions, about Nelson and Marlborough however 14 to 15 can be expected. If fog hangs around in some South Island areas for longer during the day this will naturally keep temperatures rather cool.
