A series of low pressure systems move over New Zealand today, there are no particularly strong features with these lows however cold upper air and a surface southwest change could deliver heavy showers with thunderstorms and hail this afternoon about coastal Otago.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with a few showers developing this morning, some areas may remain dry, showers mostly clearing in the evening. Northwest winds change southwest later in the evening.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Increasing cloud, a few patchy showers from morning about Taranaki spread elsewhere by midday. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 17-19

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with some drizzle possible, mainly this morning. Gusty northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, there may be a spot of rain about mainly in the afternoon about Nelson otherwise fairly dry. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Canterbury
Chance morning spot of rain then sunny areas increase, light winds tending northwest this afternoon.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Showers, easing overnight. Light northerlies.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and some high cloud. Northwesterlies change southwest in the afternoon bringing showers, some may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail (especially about coastal Otago) then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 14-18
