A ridge lies over much of the country today however it does weaken from afternoon for the South Island as a northwesterly airflow develops. A front moves onto the lower South Island later this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mainly sunny with light southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with light west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island
Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather for most, Gisborne sees showers gradually ease then clearing in the evening. Southwesterlies winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Sunny spells with north to northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny with light winds.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Sunny with east to northeasterly winds.
High: 12

West Coast
Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning with some drizzle from afternoon, turning to rain in the evening for South Westland. Rain pushes northwards overnight. Light winds, a west to southwest change later in the day / overnight.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, northwesterlies change gusty southwest in the evening about Southland then overnight further north bringing rain then showers. Southwesterlies may be strong about the coast.
Highs: 10-13
