A strong northwesterly airflow lies over most of New Zealand today bringing heavy rain for some in the west, while the odd spot of rain spreads eastwards. More details for your region below.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, mainly Auckland southwards. Northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with a few showers then rain moves in during the afternoon, possibly heavy in the evening for some. Northwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Cloudy, a few spots of rain spread from the west at times especially late afternoon / evening. Breezy northwesterly winds, strong about the Wairarapa from afternoon.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

A few spits of rain from morning becoming more persistent in the evening. Northerly winds becoming strong in the afternoon, gusting to gale at times.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with the odd spot of rain, rain more persistent about Nelson. Strong north to northwesterly winds, gale at times about Marlborough, especially the Sounds.
Highs: 15-18

Canterbury

Morning spots of rain clear then sunny areas break through in the afternoon. Some high cloud at times through the day. Gusty northeasterly winds change strong northwest by midday.
Highs: 22-23

West Coast

Heavy rain eases during the afternoon. Rain may be heavy about Buller for much of the day. Gusty northerlies tend northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Early rain clears then mostly sunny, further showers may pass through late afternoon / evening about Southland and coastal Otago. Breezy northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18
