A strong southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, easing from evening. Showers for most regions, heavy about the west of the North Island then easing this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Showers turning to rain in the morning (a risk of thunder too) then easing afternoon, perhaps clearing for some. Gusty northwesterly winds change strong westerly around midday. Northland only sees a few showers pass through in the afternoon otherwise dry in the morning and later on.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain (possibly heavy with a risk of hail, snow to 700m about the Central Plateau) then easing to showers in the afternoon as strong to gale westerly winds change southwest. Showers clear in the afternoon with southwesterlies easing, a shower or two may hang about Manawatu till evening.
Highs: 10-14
 
Eastern North Island
A few morning showers for Hawkes Bay northwards then clearing with sunny spells in the afternoon. The Wairarapa sees a drier morning then the odd shower from afternoon. Strong westerlies tend more southwest after midday, winds gusting to gale at times.

Wellington
Mostly sunny with brisk to strong westerly winds, there is the chance of an isolated shower passing through in the afternoon.

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny weather with gusty west to southwesterly winds dying out in the evening.
High: 13
 
Canterbury
Sunny spells, chance of a shower developing this morning any of which clear afternoon, gusty cold southwesterly winds. There is the chance of a lingering shower till late afternoon about parts of North Canterbury Waipara northwards.
High: 12
 
West Coast
Early rain eases to the odd shower and sunny spells, winds gusty and cold from the southwest. Overnight rain moves in as winds tend northwest.
Highs: 9-10
 
Southland & Otago
Showers and snow flurries to 400m clear in the morning about Otago and Southland in the afternoon, sunny areas then breaking through. Winds quite cold from the southwest (gale about the Otago coast) easing afternoon / evening.
Highs: 7-9
