A front moves northwards over the South Island today bringing showers or rain to most areas, Nelson and Marlborough may remain fairly dry though. For the North Island conditions are mainly settled although northerlies will build about Wellington and westerlies build in the west. The front moves through later in the evening / overnight but unfortunately runs out of moisture meaning not much in the way of rain or showers is expected to fall as it moves through.
Northland
Sunny with some cloud, light west to southwest winds. Around midnight southwesterlies freshen with the chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry.
Sunny spells and increasing cloud with west to southwesterly winds, chance
of a shower later in the evening or around midnight with a southwest
change.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Westerly breezes with sunny spells and some cloud, increasing a little late
afternoon onwards. Chance of a shower later in the evening or around midnight as
winds change southwest. Warmest temperatures about the Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 24-27
Eastern North Island
Sunny with some high cloud and light winds, afternoon easterlies develop
about Hawkes Bay then ease later in the evening. Later in the evening
southwesterlies push into the Wairarapa with a few showers then further north
overnight, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne may remain mostly dry with the change
though.

Western North Island
Sunny spells and increasing cloud with freshening westerly breezes, a
southwest change later in the evening brings showers.
Sunny spells and increasing cloud, becoming mostly cloudy by afternoon with
strong northerly winds. Later in the evening strong southerlies develop with
showers.
Sunny and cloudy periods with west to northwest winds, a change to
southwesterlies in the evening brings a few brief showers then clearing.
Southwesterlies ease overnight with clear skies developing.
Sunny with some high cloud and northwesterly winds, a change to
southwesterlies later in the evening brings the chance of a few brief
showers.
Areas of increasing high cloud with light winds, a southwest change around
midday brings showers then rain. Rain may be heavy about South and Mid Canterbury with a thunderstorm or two and a risk of hail. Rain eases back to showers by midnight.
Morning rain eases to showers as northerlies change southwest. Showers
clear in the evening as winds tend more southerly.
Morning rain eases to showers in the afternoon which then clear in the
evening. Brisk cold southwesterlies. A few clear spells may break through in the
evening.

Central Otago
Mostly cloudy, dry at first but showers moving in again towards midday with
southwesterly winds. Showers clear by evening with southwesterlies easing, clear
spells then increase.
Occasional showers with brisk west to southwest breezes, chance of a heavy shower now and then with some hail. Winds ease in the
evening with showers clearing around midnight.
