The high pressure bubble over the country this week finally bursts today and the air pressure falls as windy west to north west winds move in and a cold front gradually moves up the South Island, weakening as it does so.

Hot weather will be in the east with highs approaching 30.

Auckland Northland Waikato BOP

Cloudy areas but sunny spells too. Fairly hot with the risk of a shower in Northland, dry or mainly dry elsewhere.  A slight west to south west flow.
Highs: 23 to 27
Lows: 14 to 17

Western North Island (also Central Plateau)

A mix of sun and cloudy with light west to north west winds.
Highs: 23 to 26
Low: 13 to 16

Eastern North Island

Hot, nor’westers kicking in. Mainly sunny. Hottest weather around Hawke’s Bay.
High:  21 to 31
Low: 13 to 16

Wellington

Cloudy areas with brisk nor’westers.
High: 20
Low: 16

Nelson & Marlborough

Quite sunny, some cloudy spells. Brisk, hot, nor’westers especially inland to the east.
High: 24 to 28
Low: 11 to 14

West Coast

Rain slowly spreading northwards across the day. WNW winds.
Highs: 18
Low: 12

Canterbury

Mainly Sunny with breezy to brisk NW winds.
High: 25 to 28
Low: 12

Southland and Otago

Rain moving into Southland and spreading into Otago later with brisk nor’westers. A west to south west change later in the day.
Highs:  16 t0 24
Lows: 6 to 10
