FRIDAY’s Big Picture – An east & west divide

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A ridge lies over the upper North Island  while the rest of the country sits under a northwesterly airflow- and we will see a clear divide between eastern and western parts of New Zealand.

Cloudy areas stick around for the West of the North Island, while sunny areas are more frequent from Auckland northwards.
It’s mainly sunny on the East Coast and for the Bay of Plenty.

For the South Island, it’s mainly sunny in the east here too, while some high cloud sticks around for Southland and Otago.
Cloudy areas prevail on the West Coast, while there’s showers and westerly winds for South Westland and Fiordland.
