A strong northwesterly airflow builds over the South Island tonight bringing gales to some places, heavy rain on the West Coast will be thundery at times. For the North Island a ridge of high pressure hangs on, still plenty of cloud about however.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy skies tonight with light winds, low risk of a drizzle patch or two.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Cloudy spells with light winds. There could be a drizzle patch move in about eastern Bay Of Plenty and some Central North Island areas overnight.
Lows tonight: 8-11

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies. Expect northerly winds for most, about Wairarapa northwesterlies become strong during the night however.
Lows tonight: 8-10

Western North Island
Clear with some cloud overnight, northerly winds. Showers develop tomorrow morning about northern Taranaki.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Wellington
Strong to gale force winds from the north, clear with some cloud.
Lows tonight: 11

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly clear skies tonight about Marlborough with gusty northwesterly winds, possibly rising to gale force in the morning. Winds about the outer Sounds will be gale force from the northwest for much of the night. Nelson sees some cloud develop this evening then showers towards dawn there, winds picking up from the northwest there overnight.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Canterbury
Clear skies with strong northwesterlies inland spreading to the coast overnight. Winds may gust to gale fore at times. Some rain moves through towards dawn tomorrow morning also.
Lows tonight: 10-11

West Coast
Rain tonight, heavy and thundery about Fiordland and South Westland then becoming heavy and thundery further north mid way through the night or towards dawn. Gusty northerly winds.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Coastal Otago
High cloud thickening this evening, light winds becoming strong from the northwest overnight possibly gusting to gale force at times. Some rain develops towards dawn also.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Southland & Central Otago
Mainly cloudy skies with strong northwesterly winds, possibly gusting to gale force at times. Expect rain to develop later this evening, heavy thundery falls are possible about the central lakes district then easing towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 4-7
