A series of fronts are making their way north over the country tonight bringing rain or showers for many, eastern coastal areas north of North Canterbury will be mainly dry although a few brief spits will likely pass through for a time.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy skies with west to northwest winds, the odd shower develops this evening then eases overnight.
Lows tonight: 12-13

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mostly cloudy skies, becoming cloudy about the Bay of Plenty this evening. Showers develop in the west this evening then spread into the Bay Of Plenty later in the evening or overnight. Winds change westerly around midnight for most.
Lows tonight: 8-11

Eastern North Island
Clear skies and some high cloud developing this evening, northerly winds. High cloud clears overnight as
winds tend northwest.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Western North Island
Mostly cloudy with northerly winds, showers about northern Taranaki spread elsewhere for a time this evening then ease as winds change northwest. Overnight further showers move in from the west.
Low tonight: 9-11

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with strong northerlies, a few spots of rain develop this evening then ease. The odd spot of rain may continue overnight.
Lows tonight: 11-12

Nelson
Increasing cloud with some rain later this evening for a time then clearing, northerly winds tend northwest overnight.
Low tonight: 9

Marlborough
Some high cloud, brief evening rain possible then skies clearing up overnight. Northwesterly winds.
Low tonight: 9

Canterbury
Some rain about South and Mid Canterbury clearing this evening. A few areas of rain make it into North Canterbury, mainly inland with lighter falls spreading further east. Skies clearing up once rain clears. Easterly winds ease near the coast this evening, northerly winds overnight.
Lows tonight: 7-9

West Coast
Rain with a chance of thunderstorms, northerly winds.
Low tonight: 9

Coastal Otago
Any remaining areas of rain clear this evening, skies will be mainly clear at that point with further high cloud towards dawn tomorrow. Easterly winds ease from this evening.
Low tonight: 7

Central Otago
Some cloud with northerly winds easing, some scattered rain may spread from the west overnight.
Lows tonight: 4-5

Southland
Clear spells with northeasterly breezes, high cloud thickens again towards dawn tomorrow.
Low tonight: 6
