The ridge that has hovered over the country today begins to weaken overnight as the sub tropical low pressure system to the north moves closer to the North Island. Some rain develops later in the night about Northland and north of Hawkes Bay on the east coast. In the South Island most places are dry apart from the West Coast.

Northland
Mainly cloudy with east to southeast breezes, the odd shower at times turning to rain later in the night or perhaps towards dawn.
Low tonight: 12-13

Central North Island, Waikato & Auckland
Cloud increasing this evening with easterly breezes. a few showers move into Auckland later in the night.
Lows tonight: 6-12

Bay Of Plenty
Mainly cloudy with showers later this evening or overnight. easterly winds.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Eastern North Island
High cloud about Gisborne thickening this evening with showers later, clear to start about Hawkes Bay but cloud develops there later with showers overnight. Remaining mainly dry and clear overnight about Wairarapa with light northeasterlies.
Lows tonight: 5-8

Western North Island
Mainly clear skies with light winds.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Wellington
Cloud breaking up a little this evening then mainly clear overnight. Chance of some fog by dawn however. Northerly winds ease.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly clear skies with light winds, northwesterlies about Marlborough ease this evening. Could be a fog patch or two develop overnight.
Lows tonight: 4-5

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy with light southerlies tending easterly this evening.
Lows tonight: 3-4

West Coast
Showers this evening clear, cloud may break up a little overnight. Light northeasterlies. South of Haast expect rain or showers for most of the night.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Coastal Otago
Cloudy areas with light northeast breezes.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Central Otago
Cloudy skies with light winds, some rain possible this evening mainly in the west.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Southland
Clear with some high cloud, light winds.
Lows tonight: 2-3
