An east to northeast airflow lies over the country tonight inbetween a low pressure system to the north of the New Zealand and an anticyclone to the south. Some western parts of the North Island and the whole West Coast of the South Island remain dry although there is plenty of high cloud. In the east expect rain or drizzle for most.

Rain with heavy falls at times easing to showers overnight, gusty easterlies ease too.

Cloudy with the odd shower possible, rain moves in overnight. Brisk east to southeast winds.

Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower turning to rain overnight, rain mainly about western Bay Of Plenty. Brisk easterly winds.

Waikato
Brief rain at times, long dry spells too. Brisk easterly winds.

Central North Island
Cloudy with the odd shower later in the night, easterly winds.
Low tonight: 9
Eastern North Island
Rain, with easterly breezes. Rain could become heavy about Gisborne.
Low tonight: 10
Western North Island
High cloud with east to southeast winds, there could be a shower or two later in the night.
Low tonight: 10-11
Wellington
Cloudy with southeasterlies, the odd shower is possible mainly in the east.
Lows tonight: 10-11
Nelson
Mostly cloudy with east to southeast breezes.
Lows tonight: 7-8
Marlborough
Drizzle patches develop this evening, east to southeast breezes. There may be some rain on the coast south of Clifford Bay overnight.

Canterbury
Cloudy, drizzle patches becoming a little more widespread overnight. East to northeast breezes.

West Coast
High cloud with light winds, some rain moves into Fiordland around dawn tomorrow morning.

Coastal Otago
Cloudy with drizzle, breezy northeasterlies.
Low tonight: 7
Central Otago
High cloud with light winds tending northerly, could be a spot of rain towards dawn tomorrow.
Low tonight: 1-2
Southland
High cloud with northeast breezes.

High above in SE Auckland skies there were some pale orange sunset clouds,flocks of birds migrating and birds singing in tree tops in New Lynn.
