Gales, rain and even a dusting of snow on the tops of the Southern Alps is moving in today, tonight and across Saturday as a significant storm in the Southern Ocean tracks by.
Wettest weather will initially be in the south and west, but as we go into Saturday eastern areas will get some wet weather too. Winds will be strongest in the upper North Island on Saturday.
Today the heaviest rain will be on the West Coast.
The good news? It clears away on Sunday with a pulse of hotter air coming out of Australia to kick off next week.
