Updated 11:40am — The V8 Supercars are back at Mt Panorama for 2012 and WeatherWatch.co.nz is again bringing you the latest forecast for one of the toughest motor races on earth.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says Bathurst is famous for extreme weather but today is unlikely to be one of those days.
Being well inland from Sydney it often has highs close to 30 then frosts then next morning.
Bathurst is also well known for dramatic afternoon thunderstorms, hail, and on some occasions bleak cold days with the temperature struggling to climb much into double digits despite the previous day being over 30 degrees.
However a cold southerly moved through overnight and the temperatures are well down today.
As of 11am NZT it was 10 degrees at Bathurst – meaning the track will be cold. This afternoon should heat up to between 14 and 19 degrees around the track (the track is over 6kms long and climbs Mt Panorama) – these temperatures are significantly lower than other years. There were no showers in the area either and just a 20% chance of one forming in the afternoon. It looks like it will be a fast race today.
