Fog delays domestic flights at Auckland Airport

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A low, dense fog around Auckland this morning has led to the delay of several domestic flights at Auckland Airport.

Airport spokesman Richard Llewellyn said had been “multiple delays” to domestic flights, although mainly those flying to and from regional centres.

“There has been no impact to international flights and very little impact to flights on major domestic routes,” Mr Llewellyn said.

International and main trunk domestic flights were less impacted as larger, newer planes are fitted with low visibility technology, whereas smaller planes are less likely to have this equipment, Mr Llewellyn said.

He said the airport was working through procedures to ease flight congestion but further delays were expected to regional flights this morning.
