Thousands of passengers have been affected by delays to flights in and out of Christchurch airport this morning due to fog.
Nine inbound domestic flights have been diverted from Christchurch this morning to Wellington, Dunedin and Timaru.
Five departing Air New Zealand flights have been cancelled because of the fog.
The flights were due to depart between 8am and 8.50am and would have flown to Auckland, Dunedin, Blenheim, Tauranga and Wellington.Check-in for numerous other domestic flights has been suspended.
International flights do not appear to have been affected.
Christchurch International Airport spokeswoman Yvonne Densem said: “There are delays and it is just because of the fog which we can’t do anything about.”
She said customers should check with their airlines if they were concerned about a flight.
