First of the year – Weather risks for Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Thursday is looking much quieter than yesterday weatherwise – with a big anticyclone settling everything down as it approaches the western part of the country.

Rain

Early rain will clear in the upper North Island – otherwise there’s a chance of rain in Wellington about early afternoon, but otherwise it’s looking dry.

Much of the South Island can expect south to southwesterly winds, with morning cloud and some early showers, though these will clear before long and break into sunny areas, so not much of a risk at all.

Wind

Winds in the east coast of the South Island will be brisk in the afternoon, particularly Christchurch – but that’s about it!
