4:15pm update
Auckland has again missed the chance of having a completely dry weekend as light showers moved into the region along with strong and gusty nor’easterlies this afternoon.
Most of these light and isolated showers have moved south between the Bombays and Miranda mainly affecting eastern areas along the Firth of Thames, according to the Weather Watch Centre’s Rain Tracker. A few brief light showers remain over the Coromandel and also north of Orewa along the eastern coastline.
Elsewhere skies are mostly clear over the North Island.
Winds have also started to significantly pick up to around 85km/h at Cape Reinga and almost 80km/h around Auckland’s harbours.
Thick cloud cover is now starting to spread over the Far North while clouds remain over much of the South Island – where many places have had a cold day.
*What is the Rain Tracker? – well we have access to the latest rain radar activity from Government forecaster MetService, updated every 7 minutes. We can report on what we see, giving you the most up to date rain details when it matters – free here at weatherwatch.co.nz.

Its getting a little better in Auckland like this weekend though cloudless/windless days are still a bit rare.
