Earthquake jolts lower North Island

> From the WeatherWatch archives

An earthquake measuring 5.4 has hit 10kms north west of Masterton this afternoon reports WeatherWatch.co.nz.

GeoNet confirmed the quake as being 30kms deep and felt widely across the lower North Island.

GeoNet says minor damage is possible around central Wairarapa.

“Talk about good earthquake weather – just had a good shake 5.4 near Masterton” commented WeatherWatch.co.nz reader Mellisa Nixon.  “Felt well here on the Kapiti Coast and the lower north island”.

Bec Adie told WeatherWatch.co.nz that she felt it in Dannevirke and that it felt like it went for “ages”.
