There’s a call for people to get in contact with DOC if they see a whale tangled up with a craypot line and buoy.
The 15 metre long whale was last seen on Monday off Banks Peninsula.
Department of Conservation spokesman Alan McDonald says a specialist crew went out to detangle the whale on Tuesday but it had disappeared.
An extensive search for the whale from a fixed wing plane has failed to find any sign of it.
Alan McDonald says if people see the whale, which could be anywhere from north Canterbury up, they should call DOC.
