Desert Road re-opens…for now

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The Desert Road on State Highway 1 in the central North Island has reopened but snow showers are continuing and drivers are being warned to take care as winter driving conditions exist.

In the South Island, the Lindis Pass to Tarras is closed and flooding has closed State Highway 1 from Hilderthorpe to Oamar.

A snow warning is in place for Porters Pass.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says that the road may well be closed again overnight as melted snow turns to black ice.
