Last Sunday WeatherWatch.co.nz ran its first ever poll – is the extension of daylight savings working? We had a fantastic response online and via email.
The results? 70% of those who took part believed the the extension, to the first weekend in April, is a good thing. While 30% don’t like the extension.
“The results were interesting…as the week wore on more negative comments came in. I put that down to people becoming aware of how dark the mornings are getting” says head weather analyst Philip Duncan.
“One thing that amazed me was the amount of people wanting Daylight Savings to last all year”.
But could the weather play a part in influencing this poll? “Absolutely. We’ve had a fantastic run of dry, sunny, weather lately. If we had a wintry blast or it was wet every day I’d think people would be less in favour of a dark start to the day and more in favour of daylight savings ending at the old time in mid-March”.
