2008 has gone out on a scorcher across the country, as predicted last week by the Weather Watch Centre. 

Both islands had several places in the late 20s.  Both Christchurch and Timaru took the nation’s high with 31 today.  The lowest maximum temperature was 16 in Invercargill.
