A front is feeding onto the northeastern side of the North Island today while a low is situated near Northland. Meanwhile the South Island has a southerly airflow.

Much of the North Island is cloudy today with showers or areas of rain, there are many dry areas about Northland, Taranaki and the Wellington region however. Wellington city itself though may be seeing a few drizzle patches. Rain about Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne / Hawkes Bay may become heavy again later this evening / overnight.

Nelson, the West Coast, Southland, a large part of Otago and inland South Canterbury is mainly sunny. The rest of the South Island in the east is quite cloudy with the odd drizzle patch about coastal Canterbury and Marlborough in the south.

The warmest centre is Kerikeri on 21 degrees as at 12.30pm.

The main centres current conditions are as follows:

Auckland: 16 degrees, mostly cloudy with breezy southeasterlies and the odd shower.

Hamilton: 14 degrees, cloudy with the odd shower or some rain, southeasterly winds.

Tauranga: 12 degrees, cloudy with showers or rain at times with southeasterly winds.

Wellington: 10 degrees, cloudy with the odd light shower, cool southerlies.

Christchurch: 9 degrees, cloudy with the odd drizzle patch, cool southwesterly winds.

Dunedin: 9 degrees, sunny areas for now however cloud will increase. Light southwesterly winds.
