COLD START TO THE DAY

Kiwis are waking to the coldest morning of the year so far right across the nation thanks to cold southerlies and clear skies.  Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says every main centre is feeling the chill.  “It’s a great time of year because many people are still experiencing warm days but the nights have taken a more wintry turn with single digits in almost all our of main centres this morning”.

Duncan says the coldest main centres at 6:30am were:
Northern Auckland (Whenuapai):  6 Degrees
Napier:  5 degrees
Hamilton, Hastings, Hawera, Timaru, Rotorua, Blenheim, Palmerston North, Christchurch:  4 degrees.
Taupo, Queenstown:  2 degrees
Waiouru:  Zero degreess.

“We have a few more cold nights on the way yet thanks to a very large high, however a tropical depression moving down on Sunday or Monday should see a return to warmer easterlies over the North Island at least”.
