> From the WeatherWatch archives

Temperatures have dropped below zero across parts of the South Island and the North Island is mostly in single digits as colder air continues to spill over New Zealand early this morning.

However it’s about to get even colder with both Sunday and Monday shaping up to drop below today.

Highs of just 8 degrees are expected around Southland and Coastal Otago tomorrow and Monday.

Queenstown has a high of only 3 degrees on Monday and actually only rises to 2 degrees on Tuesday at the warmest point. Overnight lows may be -6C there.

In Wellington a high of only 10 degrees is forecast for Monday while Gisborne – which recently was in the low 20s – will now be heading for highs of around 11 to 13 next few days.

Auckland will also feel the chill with highs of only 13 degrees on Monday and Tuesday but skies should be mostly sunny.
