Cold start but sunny for many

Saturday has dawned cool to cold over much of the country with some heavy frosts in southern areas.

Dunedin airport is the coldest with minus 4 degrees but a number of centres have gone below freezing point this morning.

Much of the South Island and lower parts of the North Island should see a fine and sunny day but cloud is expected to build in the north with winds rising.
