COLD START BUT SUNNY FOR MANY

WeatherWatch.co.nz

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s been a cold start across the country today with temperatures dropping well below zero in the South Island.  At 7am Dunedin was at -4, with -3 in Queenstown and Invercargill and -2 in Wanaka, Gore and Lumsden.

In the North Island and it’s 7 in Auckland, Wellington and Whangarei with 5 in Taupo at 7am.

But the day is expected to be relatively sunny and warm for many places.  Rain and showers are lingering around central New Zealand with a rain band roughly lying between Kaikoura and southern Hawkes Bay.  A southerly is currently pushing rain straight in to Wellington.

The rain is being pushed in by a low pressure system off the east coast but it should ease today as that low moves away.

Tomorrow a new low in the Tasman Sea will move in bringing cloud and nor’easters to northern New Zealand.   Sunday should be dry for many areas but showers or patchy rain are likely to develop late in the day or evening north of Auckland.

We’ll be tracking the rain bands and updating you if anything changes.

Wow…what a lovely day! Ive just got back from riding my horse down on the beach… have been looking forward to it all week. Perfect weather for horse-riding! :o))

How I envy you. I used to love riding out on the west coast, near Dargaville. One could go for miles at low tide, salt spray in the face and the steady clop of horses hooves……mmmmn!

Its a dream come true for me. When I lived in UK we would have to drive 2 hours to get to a beach, so I never got to ride on one. Here I can ride down to the beach in 20 minutes, its more an estuary than a proper beach if you know what I mean! lol… but when the tide is out you can ride on the sand for what seems like miles. I didnt get out onto the wet sand as my new horse hates getting his little tootsies wet… something we have to work on! I’m a mother of 2 pre-schoolers and I look forward to my “me time” all week long, and I cant think of a better way to spend my time!
