Cold snap continues to surprise – snow falls in 3 North Island cities

WeatherWatch.co.nz is tonight receiving a number of reports of snow and sleet falling in Napier.  The Antarctic blast has seen snow flakes to near sea level in Wellington and Porirua and also Palmerston North this evening.

Over the past few hours WeatherWatch has received a number of comments and emails relating to snow falling in Napier city and settling on car roofs.  It’s currently around 1 and 2 degrees in the city.

A WeatherWatch.co.nz reader has also confirmed snow has fallen on the Kaimai Ranges with estimations snow fell to around 850 metres on Mt Te Aroha in the eastern Waikato.

In Wellington it’s still only 6 degrees with passing showers however winds have eased a little and are no longer gale force.
