Cold but not all wet in south

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Promised rain over some parts of the South Island struggled to eventuate as it headed north late yesterday and overnight.

Although hail and thunder did fall in parts, only cloud and some drizzle turned up in other areas such as Christchurch.

Cold temperatures took hold late yesterday, last night and this morning. All centres over the Mainland are in single figures as a southerly has left a pool of very cool air.

Today skies should continue to improve in most southern areas but temperatures are forecast to be a little below average for the time of year.

Sunday looks brighter for the most part apart from a few cloudy areas for Coasters and Nelsonians which might see the odd shower pop up.
