It’s not especially warm across New Zealand today, particularly for Dunedin residents who have dealt with gales and even the odd snow flurry over the past 24 hours.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says the bleak Dunedin forecast won’t change much for the next 12 to 18 hours but conditions are improving. Our predicted high for the city today is just 5 degrees, although in the past hour it’s crept to 6.
Strong winds from the west-south-west have eased a little from last night and will slowly continue to do so tonight.
Further north in Christchurch winds are more southerly but the city is on 10 degrees. Our detailed 6 day forecast shows cold conditions for the next 48 hours and overnight lows dropping below zero.
Auckland also has windy conditions with cloudy periods and a few light showers.
Across the country the especially heavy showers from Wednesday have cleared and while a couple of heavier showers still remain 90% of the country is seeing a considerably drier and less dramatic day of weather.
However cold winds are being felt in many areas – but should ease significantly overnight tonight and into Friday right across New Zealand.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says black ice will be a problem again overnight across some South Island roads and the North Island’s Central Plateau.

I’m feeling sorry for the folk being effected by the Sou’Wester.
Wellington surely must have some of its best weather when sheltered from this airflow.
As I walked the Labs on Petone beach at 8.30am this morning it was truly tropical, another dog walker commented on how beautiful and still the harbour looked this morning, simply stunning I said.
As they say – you can’t beat Wellington on a good day, and today was one out of the bag.
Cheers.

Wellington though cold is sheltered from the SW,it can be like Nelson weather in it though a slight change can bring it in as a NW or a southerly.
