Cloud in the north, sunny in the south – The Big Picture on Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Friday sees a big high sitting to the east of New Zealand in the Pacific Ocean, directing a northeasterly airflow over the country.

The North Island is looking fairly cloudy, with the odd shower or drizzle patch about in the morning – before easing.
The odd shower or spell of rain may pop up at any time during the day for western parts of the North Island (Taranaki and the Manawatu), and also Northland.
The Bay of Plenty sees the odd drizzle patch during the day too.

The South Island is looking mostly sunny in the east, with high cloud increasing from afternoon – and spreading in from the west.
The West Coast may see some morning sun, but then becomes cloudy by midday, while the odd shower moves in by late afternoon or evening.
