Cloud, drizzle and wind – The Big Picture on Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A northeasterly airflow lies over the North Island, while a north to northwesterly airflow sits over the South Island.

It’s looking cloudy for most of the North Island, with early morning rain around Northland & Auckland easing to showers, and drizzle or patchy showers in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and parts of the Central North Island.
Northeasterly winds around Northland & Auckland may be gusty in the morning, before easing in the afternoon.
High cloud sits out in the east of the island, while the odd spot of rain is possible – otherwise it’s looking dry for the most part.

There’s steady rain on the West Coast of the South Island, falling heavily at times.
The East Coast has thick high cloud, along with the odd spot of rain possible – mainly in the afternoon & evening, although Otago sees morning spots of rain.
Northerly winds blow for the South Island’s east coast, while it’s a little breezy for coastal areas at times.
