Cloud, drizzle and rain – The Big Picture on Tuesday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A north to northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand on Tuesday, while a front moves in from the west in the Tasman Sea – hitting the west of the South Island late in the day and the North Island overnight.

The North Island is looking mostly cloudy, with some drizzle around the Bay Of Plenty from morning, while drizzle elsewhere for the upper North Island moves in late in the evening and stays overnight.
Rain spreads in from the west overnight also for all in the west of the island.
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud stick around on the East Coast, though there’s a chance of a spot of rain towards dawn on Wednesday.

Drizzle for the West Coast of the South Island turns to rain late in the afternoon, becoming heavy from evening, and then more so overnight.
Southland and Otago have thick high cloud, with a few areas of patchy rain moving through in the afternoon and into evening.
Canterbury and Marlborough have thick high cloud too, along with a few spots of rain late in the evening.
Nelson has drizzle from morning, then rain moving in during the evening.
