ClimateWatch Video: August’s outlook as talk of La Nina returns

> From the WeatherWatch archives

If you want La Nina don’t get too excited just yet – there are signs that La Nina is starting to form again but nothing is yet locked in.

Usually for New Zealand to be significantly impacted it needs to be a strong La Nina – after all, it is measured at the equator.

However scientists are focusing again on all signs pointing towards another La Nina later this year. We take a look at incoming rainfall – with perhaps a more “normal” set up seeing western areas get the rain and eastern areas fairly dry.

Temperature-wise, just like July, most of NZ leans warmer than average.

Check out our video here (and we’ll put up a story by July 31 showing all the maps used in our video today).
