Christmas in the park + Biggest moon of 2008

Conditions are looking good for tonight’s Christmas in the Park in Auckland.

The 3pm forecast from the Weather Watch Centre says this evening skies will be mostly clear with just a few harmless clouds drifting in from the south.

The temperature in Auckland Central is likely to be around 16 or 17 degrees this evening.

As of 3pm it was between 20 and 22 degrees in the Auckland Domain.

Head Weather Analyst Philip Duncan says there’s still a 10% chance of a shower tonight.  “That basically means there may be an isolated shower somewhere within the entire Auckland region – we doubt there’ll be any in the city centre and according to the 3pm Auckland Rain Radar there were a few showers east of Coromandel Peninsula but that’s about it”.

An extra large moon will help brighten conditions after dark tonight!

How did you Sleep last night?

The biggest full moon of 2008 moved over our skies last night due to it passing closer to earth as part of it’s natural cycle.  Although we have a full moon every month this one 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than other full moons seen this year.

Some people claim to sleep terribly during full moons – and animals have been known to be restless.
