Temps surge in Christchurch
At 10am it was 23 degrees in Christchurch – already quite warm for an early October morning.
But in just the past 60 minutes it’s soared to 27 degrees at the airport.
Private weather stations within the city, as of 11am, are showing highs in the late 20s, meaning 30 degrees is possible before 12noon.
The hottest part of the day is usually between 2 and 4pm.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says highs today may reach the mid 30s in eastern New Zealand – which would likely break or challenge more records. (See NIWA for more info on records)
