The government forecaster has today issued a severe weather warning for the Gisborne region predicting big rainfall totals.
They say in the 32 hours from 4pm Tuesday to midnight Wednesday, the Gisborne region can expect 230 to 280mm of rain north of Tologa Bay and 120 to 150mm of rain in the ranges further south.
Peak intensities of 20 to 25mm/hr possible Wednesday afternoon and evening says the forecaster, saying 60 to 90mm may fall about lower lying areas during this time.
