Another heavy rain warning has been issued for the Bay of Plenty region as another wintry outbreak begins.
And it’s not just Bay of Plenty either.
Rain warnings are also in place for Rotorua, Taranaki, Nelson, Nelson Lakes, Buller, Westland, Fiordland, the Southern Lakes and Southland.
MetService says rain is forecast to set in before dawn on Friday in the Bay of Plenty. “In the 9 to 12 hours from 3am Friday, expect 60 to 90mm of rain”
“The heaviest falls are likely Friday morning when intensities could reach 25mm/hr or more in squally thunderstorms”

I can’t see any warnings at all for Southland on the Metservice site at this stage – where did you find that??

It’s actually quite confusing how MetService issue warnings sometimes. This is highlighted as Southland but you can see from their description where it covers:
SOUTHLAND – HEAVY RAIN WARNING WESTLAND AND FIORDLAND BETWEEN OTIRA AND MILFORD SOUND : Rain is forecast to become heavy this afternoon. In the 9 to 12 hours from 3pm today, expect 70 to 100mm of rain. The heaviest falls are likely this evening in Westland when intensities may reach 25mm/hr in thunderstorms. Issued: 9:00 am 10 Jun 2010 NZST

It’s kind of like including Hawkes Bay when there is a warning out for the western Bay Of Plenty, lol.
