We’re edging closer to the second month of Autumn and even though March seemed an extension of summer for most of us, are the Autumn colours noticeable in your part of the country at this point?
Winds also haven’t been overly excessive but leaves can fall quite quickly especially in southern areas at this time of year when they blow through.
It is a very pretty time of year and the country seems to see different colours at different times but also the falling of leaves can be staggered at differing times as well nationwide.
Lake Wanaka can look absolutely stunning during the Autumn months as do some of the alpine passes across both islands.
Is this year an earlier or later compared to other years with the changing of the colours and that wonderful rusric look?
We’re wondering because of the drought and warm to high temperatures that have been recorded in recent months if this has an impact at all?
We’d like to get your thoughts on it and see what’s happening in your neighbourhood. Feel free to drop in a comment.

Best season of the lot,not the heat of summer but the cool mornings and golden look of the day for another month or abouts.

A few trees getting that Autumn colour tone now, still very much the “Indian Summer” though in Whitby, nights cooler but the days comfortable, Nor’Wester a welcome guest the last 2 days, great washing dryer.
I agree on the Wanaka in Autumn comment, living down those parts 20 odd years ago, I remember the stunning scenery all the way from home at Lake Tekapo southwards, the most beautiful scenery to be seen.
I bet it looks fantastic as I type.
Cheers.

No change in colour yet here in Auckland, apart from maybe a few leaves on some trees. Probably due to the fact that it’s still around 25 degrees everyday here… however it’s a bit cooler than it was. Cicadas have completely stopped despite only a small temperature decrease over the last two weeks, at which time they were still chirping away loudly for a large portion of each day. I moved up here a month ago from Wellington and cannot believe how much warmer it is up here, Aucklanders keep telling me that they’ve all started to classify their climate as ‘subtropical’ now, and I can sure see why!
