August begins with sunshine

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Officially it’s the last month of winter and as kids go back to school, the weather looks mostly fine and settled for much of New Zealand with some frosts likely in the mornings.

” This time last week in eastern areas it was very cold and snowy in places and today and the rest of the week is certainly in sharp contrast to that” says Weather Analyst Richard Green.
” We’re looking at some cool to cold nights across most of the country but the payoff is more mainly sunny days with just the odd small blemish here and there but nothing too major at this point” Mr Green says.

Frosts have taken place this morning with Hamilton, Rotorua and Masterton seeing the thermometer dip just below freezing and Christchurch is the coldest location across the south with almost minus 4 degrees.

Weatherwatch.co.nz believes Nelson is looking one of the mildest centres today with a glorious day expected and a top temperature of around 14 or 15 degrees following a nippy start.

Main Centre Highs
