AUCKLAND WIPED OUT BY WEATHER

High buildings in Auckland city have disappeared today as humid northerlies drag in low cloud and drizzle.  “From the city higher points of the North Shore appear to have gone, while looking back to the City from the Shore shows what looks like suburbia as high rises disappear – masked by cloud” says head weather analyst Philip Duncan.  “Heavy rain will move across the city tonight, probably after 6pm and could make driving hazardous – if you can leave early it might be best”.

Further south and Christchurch residents are still waiting for heavy rain to set in.  The main rain band is at this stage still in Marlborough but overnight should drift southwards and could become a significant rain event tomorrow.
Wellington is still receiving heavy rain and Duncan says surface flooding is a definite possibility in the next 24 hours.
