Heavy fog at Auckland Airport has caused delays to a number of domestic regional flights about the country today.
An Auckland Airport spokesman said flights had been affected by fog since about 1.30am.
At this stage, approximately 24 domestic regional flights had been cancelled and 12 domestic regional flights had been delayed, due to the fog, he said.
Just one main trunk domestic flight to Christchurch had been delayed. Flights to Wellington, Dunedin and Queenstown were not affected at this stage, he said.
Some international flights had also been affected.
A flight from Rarotonga was diverted to Christchurch this morning, and another from outside of Hong Kong was delayed, but had since landed, the spokesman said
An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said a number of domestic flights had been affected.
She said passengers were advised to visit the Air New Zealand website for up to date travel information.
WeatherWatch.co.nz expects the fog to slowly lift later this morning but in some pockets it could last until lunchtime/early afternoon.
