Another surge of cold air tonight

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Another surge of chilled air is on its way tonight but it should be the end of this weeks cold snap before the settled Labour Weekend weather arrives.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says another cold front will hit Southland this afternoon bringing rain and a cold, strong, south westerly.

Temperatures are likely to be in the low single digits tonight in many areas with snow falling to a few hundred metres again in the deep south – which may affect some alpine highways.

Further north and the cold change will rush up the coastlines weakening as it does so into Thursday morning.

Wellington is expected to have a cold, showery, southerly tomorrow morning.

It’s possible there may be a few thunderstorms in coastal parts of Southland and Otago as the cold front comes through this afternoon.
