Another freezing start in places – the coldest parts of NZ

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s another very frosty morning again for the South Island – especially inland, as we’ve seen already this week as temperatures plummet after the winter solstice!

As of 6:30am, the following places are looking very chilly indeed:

  • Alexandra: -7.8C
  • Gore: -1.8C
  • Queenstown: -6.4C
  • Lake Pukaki: -12C
  • Wanaka: -2.0C
  • Invercargill: 0.3C
  • Christchurch: -3.6C
  • Taupo: -2.1C

Thankfully, this morning looks like the tail end of these severe frosts, and while overnight Thursday or Friday morning could be cold again, it’s not looking like getting down into the double digit negatives!
