New Zealand is currently in a seven day cycle of rain and the timing of the lows couldn’t be worse for those trying to squeeze in some exercise during the short days of winter.
For the past several weeks numerous heavy rain bands have closed sports fields across Auckland.
Fields are closed when conditions become too wet underfoot – the closure is to protect the grass and extend the ‘life’ of the fields during the wetter months of winter.
But the widespread closures has lead to frustration for parents and other adults and children who are trying to make the most of weekend sports.
This Friday and Saturday yet another band of heavy rain is moving in and WeatherWatch.co.nz predicts another rain maker from the Tasman Sea looks likely towards the end of next week too.

Everything is at saturation point – this is so typical of townies to spout on about things that affect them for one day a week.
