A westerly change – The Big Picture on Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A cool southwesterly airflow eases over the country during the day, as a ridge of high pressure pushes in – meaning a brief end to the high temperatures – especially overnight – that many in the North Island have been experiencing.

It’s looking mostly sunny for the upper North Island, while the lower North Island and the west sees cloudy areas and the chance of a shower (mainly during the early morning), along with winds from the west.
The East Coast is mainly sunny with westerly winds too.

Cloudy areas stick around for the West Coast of the South Island, with the odd shower possible, and west to southwest winds here too.
It’s looking mainly sunny elsewhere for the South Island, but there may be some morning cloud for the east coast – with any early coastal showers clearing away.
