“Hot and windy in Ngapara North Otago”
That was the comment from WeatherWatch visitor Tania Hayman.
So we know that there was some summer today in New Zealand. Some summer even showed up on the North Island.
“Hot and 28 in Gizzy”, says Debby Cresswell.
The southern parts of the Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty, Otago, Southland, Nelson and Marlborough reported plenty of sunshine today. It was also a very windy day, especially in the Waikato. Windy enough to snap some tree branches near Te Awamutu.
It was not summer-like however, for many folks. Including those in Christchurch and Auckland.
Especially Auckland.
Shea Coffman in Waiake said, “Overcast, breezy and cool”
Laura Baird said, “Cloudy and windy in Auckland. Far from what was first predicted”
DIana Foster summed it pretty well by saying, “Almost seemed like Autumn day in Auckland”
Weather is anticipated to be a bit more settled for Auckland and Christchurch tomorrow, as long as that ridge of high pressure doesn’t fool us again. Normally, a ridge of high pressure is a very easy weather feature to forecast.
But then, this summer has been anything but normal.

Grey overcast day here in West Melton with drizzly showers this afternoon. There was no ridge over us or anything anticyclonic, just a result of a weak front moving over. Drizzly showers good for the ground as we have been rather dry here of recent, however, the forecasted gales from the NW will probably dry this lovely moisture out, sadly.

Yes we get better weather in Auckland with a big low approaching the south island when all those rain warnings are given south of taranaki, not a useless anticyclone in the tasman.
